#PROPANEday marks its third edition this year on Monday, June 7. #PROPANEday is celebrated around the world-wide each year by the industry to raise awareness around propane and increase the visibility of the benefits of this exceptional energy.
On April 19, Federal Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland tabled the first federal budget in more than two years. The budgetary deficit for fiscal year 2020-21, was $354.2 billion – 49 per cent of the GDP.
The budget outlines the introduction of a Low-Carbon Fuel Procurement Program. The CPA will be reviewing the details and possible applications to propane once they become available.

The federal government announced an $80,000 investment to support the development of the Municipal Energy and Emission Database, an integrated geospatial platform that tracks greenhouse gas emissions for municipalities across Canada.

The fight to keep Line 5 running continues. The CPA has been working with many other stakeholders to maintain this critical infrastructure.

The British Columbia government has created the InBC Investment Corp., a new $500-million strategic investment fund. InBC will focus on driving innovation, sustainability, attracting investment, and diversifying B.C.’s economy. This new entity and funding bring the potential to develop renewable propane in the province.

CPA members and their employees are required to undergo training. The Canada-Manitoba Job Grant may help to offset some of these costs.

On March 25, 2021, the government of Nova Scotia released their budget, announcing significant investment to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Stewardship Ontario’s wind up of the Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste program for all program stewards was scheduled to take place on June 30, 2021. However, this date has now been extended to September 30, 2021, pending further consultation and development of the new program.

To promote the many uses of propane, the CPA issued the following news release on May 4: Turn your home into a backyard oasis with propane. In addition to grilling with propane, the news release discussed fire pits, heaters, propane-powered pool heaters and lighting – everything you need to turn a backyard into an oasis.
