More than 100 members attended the 2022 CPA Leadership Summit and golf tournament held from May 17-19 at the Rimrock Resort in Banff, AB. It was an opportunity for members and associates from across Canada to meet and discuss important aspects of the propane industry under the unifying theme Energy For All.

At the Canadian Pupil Transportation Conference in Banff on April 28, 2022, the Propane Education and Research Council's President and CEO, Tucker Perkins, spoke about the role auto propane must play in getting children to school safely, displacing diesel engines and reducing overall NOx emissions by 96%.

The CPA reached out to the Government of Manitoba to confirm that propane for the peat moss harvesting industry is included in the fuel tax exemptions, announced in a bulletin in April 2022.

Earlier this month, the CPA reached out to all MPs in support of Private Members Bill C-234, an Act to amend the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act, which is currently before the House of Commons. Bill C-234 contains an exemption for propane in affected provinces (AB, SK, MB and ON). On May 18, the bill passed second reading in the House of Commons.

A Wisconsin Indigenous band has asked a U.S. court for a quick judgment on an application to evict Enbridge Line 5 from its land. The Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewais asked a U.S. federal court for a permanent injunction requiring Enbridge to “cease operation of the pipeline and to safely decommission and remove it.”

The recent study from IHS Markit, conducted on behalf of the CPA, shows that propane’s carbon intensity produced in the Montney region and transported to a Western market hub has a value of 71 gCO2e/MJ. The BC Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) sets a baseline carbon intensity of propane at 75.35 gCO2e/MJ.

The CPA gave its support to the Association Québécoise du Propane (AQP) after roadside inspectors from the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) removed propane-powered school buses from the road or have their bumper color changed as a pressure tactic in their union negotiations.
