The northern Manitoba community of Churchill can now rest easier knowing they will have enough propane supply to last them through the winter.
 
 
   
On August 3, 2017, the CPA filed a submission with the Michigan Pipeline Safety Advisory Board in support of the continuation of Enbridge Line 5. The Advisory Board is currently reviewing the future of Line 5 and is considering alternate routes and upgraded pipelines.
 
On August 4, the CPA submitted its recommendations to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance as part of the Federal Government’s pre-budget consultations.
 
 
   
After a series of hearings in which the CPA was an active participant, the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) has approved applications from Union Gas for natural gas expansion into three markets.
 
 
   
The recently released Annual Energy Conservation Progress Report, published in August by the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, shows that from 2014 to 2015 propane use held steady in Ontario, while competing fuels saw a reduction in consumption. 
 
The Canada-European Union (EU) Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is a trade agreement with European partners. According to the Federal Government, CETA will open new markets in the EU for our exporters and generate significant benefits for all Canadians.
 
A greenhouse gas emission units auction was held August 15, 2017. This is the twelfth auction held jointly by Québec and California since their respective carbon markets were linked on January 1, 2014.

The CPA is modifying its monthly newsletter, Insider, to streamline information, create efficiencies and improve communication with members. Insider is now being divided into two newsletters: Public Affairs and Regulatory Affairs.
 
The 2017 EMMC conference took place at the scenic Algonquin Resort in St. Andrews by the Sea, New Brunswick on August 13 and 14. The annual conference includes Provincial and Federal Energy and Mines Ministers from across Canada and other energy stakeholders. 
 
 
   
While on summer holidays in Ireland, CPA's Allan Murphy toured the Calor Gas facility in Dublin with Richard Alexander of Calor Gas and Liam Doyle from the Irish LP Gas Association. Calor Gas is a leading supplier and distributor of propane in Ireland.
 
The CPA is delighted to announce that it has hired Stephen Di Carli on a short-term contract basis to provide technical writing services for CPA’s Propane Training Institute. Stephen is a recent graduate of Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology. He will officially join our team beginning September 5, 2017 to help continue with the process of updating our propane training course material content and exams.

400-01 Propane Heaters and Torches up to 400,000 BTUH for Temporary Heat Applications Program v3.1 has been one of the Propane Training Institute’s most popular courses in recent years. Its popularity is a result of provincial recognition across Canada, along with its usefulness in preparing individuals to work safely and effectively with these appliances. This course is now available in French for added benefit to CPA members.
 
Melanie Levac, CPA’s Vice-President, Regulatory Affairs and Safety, will present on PTI products and offerings at l’Association québécoise du propane (AQP)’s 28th Congress in Jonquière, Quebec on Friday, September 8, 2017.
