On February 10, the CPA met with the federal government to discuss the removal of the federal carbon tax or “backstop” on propane for agricultural applications in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. As of April 1, the federal backstop will increase from $0.0310 cents per litre to $.0464 cents a litre.

The CPA met with the Alberta government to discuss its concerns with signing the Canadian Registration Number reconciliation agreement as it is currently worded. If a harmonized approval process were to be implemented using adequate approval mechanisms, Alberta believes it could be a great tool to remove added red tape in the CRN approval process.

The installation of smart meters has been an ongoing issue throughout Canada because they have been installed too close to propane tanks already in place. The CSA B149.2 Propane Storage and Handling Code states that propane installations must respect a 10 ft clearance when placed near a source of ignition.

ERAC
Transport Canada has given a deadline of January 31, 2021 to log in to their web-based system called ERAP Online Services and resubmit your ERAP, regardless of when your ERAP expires. If your ERAP expires this year, ERAC will contact you around 90 days prior to the expiration date to begin the renewal process.
