On November 22, the Alberta government announced that it is developing a new strategy on climate change based on recommendations put forward by the Climate Change Advisory Panel. Details of the final strategy are being developed, but there are four key areas that the Alberta government is moving forward on: phasing out coal-generated electricity and developing more renewable energy, implementing a new carbon price on greenhouse gas pollution, a legislated oilsands emission limit, and employing a new methane emission reduction plan.
On December 3, a comprehensive plan to fight climate change and protect the environment, while creating green jobs and building a sustainable economy, was released by Premier Greg Selinger. Key highlights of the Climate Change and Green Economy Action Plan include energy-efficiency investments, partnering toward green jobs and a green economy, and innovative programs, incentives, partnerships and resiliency.
On December 4, the Governor General delivered the first Speech from the Throne, Making Real Change Happen, on behalf of the new Federal Government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
On November 17 and 18, the CPA met with a number of senior government officials in Alberta and British Columbia to provide an update on recent propane industry activities, as well as share key opportunities and challenges that the industry currently faces.
