Print this Article

Two new editions of gas safety codes came into force on November 1, 2017:

  • CSA-B149.2-15 – Propane storage and handling code requires the establishment of operation and maintenance procedures for propane facilities.
  • CSA-Z662-15 – Oil and gas pipeline systems requires companies operating gas utility distribution systems to develop and implement safety and loss management control systems associated with activities throughout the lifecycle of a gas installation owned or operated by a gas utility.

The above new editions of gas safety codes are part of the 2015 edition of gas codes published by the Canadian Standards Association. Technical Safety BC reviewed the 2015 edition and proposed amendments to the gas codes specific to BC. These were announced last year in the information bulletin: Gas Safety Regulation amendments and new gas safety codes adopted.

Details on the upcoming codes are provided in the following directives:
Propane Facility Operations and Maintenance Procedures
Gas Distribution Systems – Safety and Loss Management System Requirements

For guidance on how to implement the upcoming codes, please see the following Technical Safety BC manuals:
Maintenance Procedures: Propane Facility System Guidelines
Gas Distribution Systems: Safety and Loss Management System Guidelines
