Task Force on Trucking Harmonization – National Stakeholder Survey

At the September 2016 meeting of the Council of Ministers Responsible for Transportation and Highway Safety, the Ministers agreed to establish a new Federal/Provincial/Territorial task force to identify areas that would benefit from increased harmonization in the trucking sector. The task force will study interprovincial truck-related legislation, regulations and policies, with a goal of improving the efficiency of interprovincial/territorial trucking, including harmonizing these where warranted.

The task force is co-chaired by Transport Canada and the Province of Saskatchewan. Provinces and territories are active participants and will work with their respective jurisdictional trucking associations and various shipping groups to get an even broader perspective.

As key transportation stakeholders, CPA invites members to:

identify barriers facing the Canadian interprovincial/territorial trucking industry; and
suggest potential short- and long-term solutions for easing these barriers.

At this stage, the task force is conducting a survey to gather information from industry stakeholders so it can begin the work of analyzing and possibly addressing barriers to safe, effective and efficient movement of cargo by truck. Organizations can submit their response (providing as much information as possible) by December 15, 2017.
