On February 21, 2018, draft regulations amending Chapter II, Gas, of the Construction Code (chapter B-1.1, r. 2), and Chapter III, Gas, of the Safety Code (chapter B-1.1, r. 3), were published in the Gazette officielle du Québec in order to obtain comments from the public.

Regulations’ objectives

These draft regulations seek mainly to:

  • update standards and codes adopted by reference and remove the publication years;
  • adapt the CSA B149.3 standard “Code for the field approval of fuel-related components on appliances and equipment” and its appendix D;
  • adopt appendix D “Fueling stations for vehicles powered by LNG” of the CSA Z276 standard “Liquefied natural gas (LNG): Production, storage, and handling”;
  • increase the safety of gas installations;
  • extend fees to the distribution of compressed and liquefied natural gas in the Safety Code, much like natural gas distributed by pipeline; and
  • integrate, in the Code, exemptions contained in section II.2 of the Regulation respecting the application of the Building Act.

For additional information on these draft regulations, visit the Régie du bâtiment du Québec website. The Régie du bâtiment du Québec has also produced documents, which can also be found on their website, to quickly identify differences between the current regulations and the new ones.
