BC: Technical Safety BC is Asking for Your Advice
As a trusted stakeholder, the CPA has been sent two draft Technical Safety BC (TSBC) Gas Program Directives for review and comment. As per our usual practice, we pass all such requests along to our members for comments. In this case, there is a short window, with comments to be received by TSBC by Monday, June 18, 2018.
The first draft directive is the Recognition of Training Programs Under the Gas Safety Regulation that details the requirements for an application to have a training program recognized under the Gas Safety Regulation (GSR). Historically recognized training program providers that have not submitted the required documentation may be required to submit this information to maintain their recognition status. The draft directive outlines “recognized status” and the requirements of trained individuals to have their proof of training when doing the work in which they are trained.
The second draft directive, Gas Flame and Combustion Special Effect Requirements, clarifies TSBC requirements for temporary or permanent gas flame and combustion special effects for use in film and television production sets, live fire training, and events before an audience. The draft states that gas appliances must not be installed in British Columbia unless they bear a mark or label from a Standards Council of Canada accredited agency (CSA, ULC) or an approval mark is issued and attached by TSBC under Section 10 of the Standards Safety Act.
Please review both directives on The Grid and return your comments by June 17, 2018 to CPA Government Relations Director, West Darren Cunningham at darrencunningham@propane.ca. An email with all the submissions will be compiled as a joint submission to TSBC.
