Print this Article

Regulations to amend chapter II (Gas) of the Construction Code (chapter B-1.1, r. 2) and chapter III (Gas) of the Safety Code (chapter B-1.1, r. 3) were published in the Gazette officielle du Québec on July 18, 2018. The changes will be effective November 15, 2018.

The primary objectives of the proposed regulations are as follows:

  • Update the standards adopted by reference and remove any mention of publishing years.
  • Adopt CSA B149.3 – Code for the Field Approval of Fuel-Related Components on Appliances and Equipment, and the associated schedule D.
  • Adopt CSA Z276 – Liquefied natural gas (LNG): Production, storage, and handling schedule D (Compressed natural gas refuelling stations installation code).
  • Improve the safety of gas installations.
  • As is already the case with natural gas distributed by pipeline, incorporate compressed and liquified natural gas into the Safety Code.
  • Incorporate into in the codes the exemptions provided for in Section II.2 of the Regulation respecting the application of the Building Act.

The Régie du bâtiment du Québec published documents that highlight the differences between the current regulations and the new regulations:
