CPA/PTI Student Workbook Updates – APRIL 2019
IMPORTANT – ADJUSTMENT CHANGES TO WORKBOOKS, CERTIFICATES AND WALLET CARDS
All certificates will be updated as of April 1, 2019. This WILL NOT have any impact on the exams and course material you have in your possession. These changes will entail, for example, removing the “LPG term” from certificates issued in Ontario and some other adjustments primarily for Ontario, which imposes their own classification. All Ontario valid certificates (Record of training (ROT)) issued prior to April 1 remain valid certificates and do not require to be reissued.
COURSE UPDATES
As well, courses listed below have been updated to provide more flexibility. Please review carefully and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
1. CPA/PTI Construction Heaters and Torches Up to and Including 400,000 BTU/h – 400-01
The title has been updated to more precisely reflect that this course and certificate cover the use of construction heaters and torches up to and Including 400,000 BTU/h. This title change helps to reduce any confusion that some regulators felt with the previous course title, i.e. that the previous version training course did not cover heaters and torches with an input of up to and including 400,000 BTU/h.
Trainers will have the choice to train for both construction heaters and torches or just for construction heaters. This will be indicated clearly on the certificate issued by the CPA/PTI.
CHANGES INCLUDE: The title of the certificate and the wallet card will be: Construction Heaters and Torches ≤ 400,000 BTU/h. It will be indicated on the back of the wallet card if it is “Construction Heaters ONLY”.
For Ontario, the Construction Heaters and Torches Up to and Including 400,000 BTU/h – 400-01 course satisfies the requirement for CH-02[1] (which includes construction heater and torch training up to and including 400,000 BTU/h). When torch training is not provided or required, the 400-01A certificates (Record of Training (ROT)) will be issued and will show the CH-02C designation, reflecting construction heater training only was successfully completed.
FOR ONTARIO, CHANGES INCLUDE: The title of the certificate and the wallet card will be: Construction Heaters and Torches ≤ 400,000 BTU/h, Ontario Classification CH-02
OR
400-01A Construction Heaters and Torches ≤ 400,000 BTU/h, Ontario Classification CH-02C
All current exams are accepted and will continue to be accepted until all inventories are used.
2. CPA/PTI Construction Heaters and Torches Over 400,000 BTU/h - 400-03
This course has now been revised to offer the option of additionally training students for propane torches. Many trainers pointed out that the previous version did not offer the option to train students for the use of torches as was available in the 400-01 course. As such, the course has been modified and the new title of the 400-03 course is: Construction Heaters and Torches Over 400,000 BTU/h.
CHANGES INCLUDE: The title of the certificate and the wallet card will be: Construction Heaters and Torches > 400,000 BTU/h.
For Ontario, the Construction Heaters and Torches Over 400,000 BTU/h – 400-03 course satisfies the requirement for CH-01 (which includes construction heater and torch training over 400,000 BTU/h). When torch training is not provided or required, the 400-03 certificates (Record of Training (ROT)) will reflect the CH-01C designation indicating construction heaters training only was successfully completed.
FOR ONTARIO, CHANGES INCLUDE: the creation of a certificate 400-03A with Ontario Classification: CH-01C.
The 400-03 certificate will include Ontario Classification, CH-01
3. CPA/PTI Connection and Use of Propane Torches – 400-08
This course is updated and clarified and now covers training for any type of propane torch, liquid or vapour fuelled. The trainer now has the options:
- to train students how to use any type of propane torch up to and including 400,000 BTU/h OR
- to train students how to use any type of propane torch equipment of any BTU/h.
The practical Evaluation Section of the Exam booklet will allow the trainer to indicate which BTU/h size option was chosen by the student.
For Ontario, the Connection and Use of Propane Torches – 400-08 course satisfies the requirement for a certificate (Record of Training (ROT)) classification CH-01T, which includes propane torch training encompassing any size BTU/h.
When propane torch training is completed ONLY for torches up to and including 400,000 BTU/h, the 400-08 certificates (Record of Training (ROT)) issued will reflect the specific CH-02T designation.
FOR ONTARIO, CHANGES INCLUDE: The 400-08 certificate will include, for Ontario Classification, CH-01T. The certificate 400-08B with Ontario Classification: CH-02T.
