Print this Article

Members be aware that Section 3.6.1 Consignor’s Certification of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulation specifies the declaration language that is required on a shipping document. The Consignor, who is in possession of the dangerous goods before transport, is responsible for preparing the shipping documents and including this declaration. This is a common inspection point for Transport Canada when they visit your sites. One of the below statements must be used on the shipping document:

(a) "I hereby declare that the contents of this consignment are fully and accurately described above by the proper shipping name, are properly classified and packaged, have dangerous goods safety marks properly affixed or displayed on them, and are in all respects in proper condition for transport according to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations.";

(b) the certification set out in section 172.204 of 49 CFR;

(c) the certification set out in section 5;4.1.6 of the ICAO Technical Instructions; SOR/2017-137

(d) the certification set out in section 5.4.1.6 of the IMDG Code; or

(e) the certification set out in section 5.4.1.6 of the UN Recommendations.

Below is an example of a shipping document from PTI Course 100-03: Transportation of Dangerous Goods. Highlighted in yellow is the consigner’s declaration.
