Update: Provincial – CRN mutual recognition of design review agreement
As of January 1, 2020, the reconciliation agreement for the Canadian Registration Number (CRN) mutual recognition of design reviews is in effect in British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Québec, Saskatchewan, and Yukon.
The CRN process has two elements:
- The review of the pressure equipment’s design, and
- The registration of equipment for use in a province or territory.
The design review will be accepted by participating provinces of the reconciliation agreement, however, registration will still be required in each individual province.
A summary of the reconciliation agreement can be viewed here.
The CPA believes it is imperative that all provinces become part of this agreement as the design review process creates unnecessary regulatory burden. The Association continues to advocate for Alberta, New Brunswick and Newfoundland to sign. A meeting is currently being planned with the Assistant Deputy Minister, Dale Beesley, to better understand Alberta’s position and find resolution (see Federal: Update – CPA continues to push for Canada-wide registration process published December 2019).
