Federal - Transport Canada extends timeline to review regulatory process for railway data

Print this Article

Transport Canada has indicated that it plans to delay the date for it’s regulatory work on railway data requirements. Due to COVID-19, along with delays caused by the railway blockades, they have had to postpone a number of meetings that were scheduled with individual shippers and railways. These meetings were an important step in the development of the regulatory proposal. This means that the draft regulatory proposal, which they had planned to present in spring for comments, will be delayed. While a date is difficult to provide at this time, they have targeted a fall meeting to consult with industry on the new proposal.

In the meantime, Transport Canada has indicated they will continue to work on their regulatory proposal and seek industry input to refine the proposal.
