UPDATE: Federal – Transport Canada piloting electronic shipping documents 'regulatory sandbox'
Transport Canada (TC) is still seeking participants interested in pursuing electronic shipping documents for the transportation of dangerous goods and is planning to conduct a ‘regulatory sandbox’ with select companies. To date, the only participants are CN and CP rail. TC is setting up the sandbox to identify concerns with process implementation and determine best communication practices with customers, including during emergency situations when providing information to first responders.
Information on the program can be found on TC’s webpage:
- Participating companies – view the equivalency certificates issued to participating companies.
- Project Notice – find the latest developments including a Notice to first responders explaining how to get shipping document information during an incident.
Without participants, TC will be unable to identify concerns or issues to advance the use of electronic documents.
The CPA will continue to work with members to provide necessary feedback. Please contact Vice-President, Regulatory Affairs & Safety Robert Loenhart to submit your comments.
