Major win for the propane industry! ERAP participants not required to report on Client Information Database

The CPA recently attended an information session on Transport Canada’s (TC) Client Information Database (CID) revisions. The most significant change to the database requirements is that Emergency Response Assistance Plan (ERAP) participants will not be required to also report on the CID database. Information entered into the ERAP database will have a space for a CID number, which is proposed to link the two databases for participants in the ERAP program.

The CID database is meant to amass information on all industries who work within the Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations. This database has been continually identified by the CPA as a duplication of information in the propane industry, which already provides similar information within the mandatory ERAP program.

On June 16, the CPA attended a meeting to identify TC revisions to the requirements and received the above reporting assurances. Although the ERAP database may require a change in platform initially, this change means that apart from adding in a CID number, the CID requirements will be deemed as fulfilled for any industry requiring an ERAP. Also, the CID requirements are now planned to be implemented in January 2022.
