As previously reported, on October 23, 2020 Ontario’s Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) posted the 2020 Code Adoption Document (CAD) for propane storage and handling. With this posting, the regulator delivered on a long-standing industry and Propane Advisory Council (PAC) request to increase harmonization for the sector with other provincial jurisdictions and align Ontario more fully with federal CSA standards.

The TSSA provided a window for industry input into this CAD which closed on November 23, 2020. The CPA had communicated support for the immediate adoption of the federal CAD propane amendments to the TSSA.

On December 8, 2020, the TSSA notified stakeholders that the online consultation on the CAD amendments for the Propane Storage & Handling Safety Program had closed, that the CAD was now published, and will come into effect on February 8, 2021. The Propane CAD may be accessed here and the consultation summary is available here.

The Propane CAD is adopted by reference in O. Reg 211/01. The CAD adopts a series of national safety codes into regulation. This CAD was last updated and published in the April 10, 2017 version (Ref No. FS-224-17).
