Print this Article

Health Canada recently announced in the Canada Gazette, Part I, Volume 154, Number 51: Regulations Amending the Hazardous Products Regulations its plans to adopt the 7th revision of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) to maintain alignment with U.S. use of the same system.

GHS says this 7th revision provides greater clarity regarding certain provisions, amends specific provisions to better reflect their original intent, and addresses administrative updates. While the current changes do not appear to directly affect propane, there may be other products specific to your locations that may be implicated.

The GHS changes can be found here (page 506), read the summary here. Once implemented, a two-year transitional period will be provided.

Health Canada is looking for your feedback on the changes. Please submit any comments to the Workplace Hazardous Materials Bureau before February 26, 2021, at hc.whmis-simdut.sc@canada.ca.
