UPDATE: ON – The CPA submits comments on proposed Ontario government recycling regulations
At the end of March, the CPA submitted comments on members’ behalf on the Ontario government’s proposed Hazardous and Special Products regulation that transitions the Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste Program to full producer responsibility. The comments, submitted on the Environmental Registry of Ontario, reiterate the CPA’s business case that supports the exemption of refillable propane cylinders due to their contribution to the province’s circular economy, as aligned with the tenets of the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act. (For more information on the proposed recycling regulations, read: UPDATE – ON: Government recycling regulation – Stray cylinders).
Ontario Government Relations Director, Marcelline Riddell, will continue working with staff from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks to provide further industry information as needed. Members will have the opportunity to discuss the issue at the upcoming Ontario Committee Meeting on April 21, 2021.
