REMINDER – Federal: samples needed for pressure relief valve study

Print this Article

The CPA has signed an agreement with Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) to evaluate CG-7 pressure relief device performance concerning service life in excess of the mandated 10-year replacement interval.

WE NEED YOU: we have 60 days to provide our first samples. The study will require sampling from across the country to ensure an accurate depiction of samples from the various climates indicative to each province.

We invite members who wish to provide samples to begin collecting them now in preparation to send to ULC. To provide samples, pressure relief valves (PRV) should be tagged to indicate:

  • Record of the date of removal
  • Age of the PRV (older PRVs with more than 10 years would be the most relevant)
  • Location it was removed from (province and terrain description such as prairie, coastal, forested rural, urban, etc.)

The sample PRVs should then be protected from further damage prior to being shipped and tested at a ULC facility. The CPA will inform members where to send samples once the address is known.

Please reach out to Robert Loenhart, Vice-President of Regulatory Affairs and Safety at robertloenhart@propane.ca to identify which valves are needed for the study and for any other questions.  As the study progresses, the CPA will keep members updated regarding the age of PRVs still needed for sample tests.
