UPDATE – Federal: Transport Canada set to no longer require cylinder requalification document

Print this Article

As announced previously, Transport Canada (TC) is working on a bulletin to inspectors directing them to no longer conduct queries on distributors who are currently required to provide a copy of a cylinder requalification document to new owners.

A task force was set up to develop wording that will remove the requirement to provide a requalification document to the owner of a cylinder. The Task Force met and wrote changes to be submitted to the committee.  The current language was edited for B339 and B341. The edits must first be approved by the committee for revision of this portion of the codes.

In the interim, TC will modify the TDG regulations to support these new changes until the new code versions are published. TDG part 5 is currently under review; it is anticipated that the changes to the TDG can be implemented quickly.

While changes take time, the CPA is confident that these are definitive steps in the right direction and will continue to keep members informed on the task force’s progress.
