UPDATE – ON: CPA provides input into TSSA safety report

The CPA participated in a consultation session hosted by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority to provide input from the propane industry to improve future TSSA annual safety reports.

TSSA’s Director of Strategic Analytics, Viola Dessanti, hosted this consultation where the CPA shared input from propane industry stakeholders.

This input included:

  • A request that fatalities data be distinct and clearly separated from the rest of the overall report content to ensure any fatal incidents are not inaccurately ascribed to the preceding regulatory sector. For example, the 2021 report fuels section lists three fatalities, two of which whose cause is undetermined and a third due to a CO2 leak.
  • A request to highlight positive stories and safety record improvements, particularly with respect to the propane sector, which operated throughout the challenging 2021 pandemic period, with improved safety outcomes.
  • A suggestion that the authority only report on activities and facilities directly under their purview.

The TSSA committed to incorporating this feedback in the 2022 Safety Report.
