UPDATE – ON: The CPA advocates for reduced burden on underground propane tank installations

On November 17, 2021, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) issued the new application requirements for installing underground propane tanks resulting from an Ontario-only provision within the 2020 Code Adoption Document (CAD) for propane.

The CPA recently re-engaged TSSA because since the 2020 CAD became effective on February 8, 2021, propane businesses wishing to install underground tanks for Ontario clients have been subject to uncertain and costly variance application and approval processes.

On November 19, 2021, the CPA sent a letter seeking clarity and reduced burden for these installations to the TSSA’s Fuels Statutory Director, Sam Sadeghi. In the letter, CPA’s Ontario Government Relations Director, Marcelline Riddell, requested a meeting on this issue to provide the TSSA with viable alternative regulatory treatment options that would reduce burden and costs for all stakeholders while maintaining provincial safety outcomes.

Members will be informed of any new developments on this issue.
