UPDATE – Atlantic: The CPA advocates for removal of required licensing for auto propane cardlocks

During the week of November 22, 2021, the CPA met with the chief inspector of Nova Scotia advocating to remove the requirement to license propane cardlock users and allow auto propane users to conduct and record training for the cardlock sites in use. The inspector agreed with the proposal but indicated that it would take some time to implement due to required regulatory changes. 

Later that week, the CPA met with P.E.I. chief inspectors to ensure that the same licensing exclusion would be implemented on the island. P.E.I. inspectors were also in agreement with the proposed training system. 

The CPA’s proposed system would require cardlock locations to provide operational function training along with required steps in response to an emergency release onsite. The training would be conducted by the cardlock provider in concert with the fleet owner, ensuring that anyone operating the cardlock received onsite information that would ensure the knowledge required to operate the cardlock system safely. 

The CPA will continue to advocate for the safe use of propane automotive fuel and working to ensure burdensome requirements are removed from industry requirements.
