Update – Cylinder and tank requalification facility requirements

Print this Article

The CPA recently met with Transport Canada to discuss a discrepancy in the way TC is regulating members who are conducting mobile requalification of cylinders and tanks. It was recently identified that TC’s interpretation and application of a TDG regulation requirement may cause a facility to unknowingly be out of compliance when conducting mobile cylinder requalifications. [For more information, read the previous story: Federal – CPA working to clarify added requirements for mobile cylinder requalifications.]

During the meeting, TC agreed that their application process is not in the code. However, they deemed their added requirement to register mobile requalifiers a valuable process that allows for the identification of additional equipment and processes needed to conduct requalifications in a location away from the facility.

Therefore, the requirement will not be removed and TC will be adding the extra steps into the guideline and in the next revision of the code to ensure requalifiers are better informed of the required steps.
