The Alberta Government has made changes to its Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act. Changes that may affect the propane sector include:

First Aid – Part II in the OHS Code

Key changes include:

  • Harmonizing workplace first aid requirements in Canada.
  • Providing flexibility in implementation.
  • Clarifying requirements for work site parties, training agencies, service providers, and workplace first aiders.

Noise exposure – Part 16 in the OHS Code (alberta.ca)

Key changes include:

  • A reduced action limit for conducting a noise exposure assessment.
  • A new requirement for fit testing of hearing protection.
  • Clarification of the competency of persons conducting noise assessments.

Changes to oil and gas wells

Most changes in Part 37 of the OHS involve removing duplication, streamlining, or revising wording to improve clarity and intent. However, there are several new or amended requirements designed to strengthen health and safety protections and better reflect conditions and equipment used in Alberta upstream operations.
