As part of its Regulatory Modernization Initiative, the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has launched consultations on rail-related regulations and guidance materials. Among other things, these consultations will support the implementation of the Transportation Modernization Act (Bill C-49), which has amended the Canada Transportation Act (Act) to introduce new measures related to freight rail.
The CTA invites affected stakeholders to share their views to ensure that the CTA's rail-related regulations and guidance materials are relevant, clear and up-to-date.
The CTA has prepared a Discussion Paper on Regulatory Modernization for Rail Transportation that focuses on the following key issues:
The CTA is also seeking views on whether all of its rail-related regulations should be consolidated into a single regulation, for ease of reference. It is expected that the amendments to the rail transportation regulations will be in place by late 2018 or early 2019.
Written submissions are due by September 30, 2018 and should be emailed to ferroviaire-rail@otc-cta.gc.ca. The CTA invites you to focus on the questions found in the Discussion Paper.
