NEW! Requirements to be developed for utility meter reverification and replacement

Effective March 16, 2020, Measurement Canada (MC) reduced services as part of measures to decrease the potential for the spread of COVID-19 and the impacts on clients and stakeholders. As part of these measures, MC temporarily suspended requirements for meter replacement and reverification.

MC is now forming a joint working group (JWG) with the Canadian Gas Association (CGA) and the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) to develop a risk-based management framework for the reverification and replacement of meters affected by the temporary suspension. The objective of the framework will be to identify the factors that must be considered in the short term when prioritizing the sampling and replacement of meters with the highest risk of measurement inaccuracy and that are due before the end of the seal period.

Although the JWG is composed of active members of the CGA and CEA, MC recognizes that other stakeholders will also be affected by the requirements of the framework and should have an opportunity to contribute to its development.

Affected stakeholders not represented by the CGA or CEA are invited to submit their comments to Michael Abraham, chair of the working group, by July 17, 2020. A copy of the joint working group's mandate is available upon request.
