NEW – ON: Feedback opportunity on Gaseous Fuels Code Adoption Document amendments open until Dec 30

On November 24, 2020 Ontario’s Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) posted amendments to the Gaseous Fuels Code Adoption Document (CAD), 2020 seeking feedback on proposed changes.

The Gaseous Fuels CAD is adopted by reference in O. Reg 212/01. The CAD adopts a series of national safety codes into regulation (Reference No. FS-225-17).

The full list of changes from the 2015 edition of B149 series code to the 2020 edition can be found on Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Group’s website: B149.1B149.3B149.5, and B149.6 (click the Preface/Scope tab in the menu).

The TSSA has removed four Ontario-specific amendments in the Gaseous Fuels CAD and added three new amendments. In total, 55 Ontario-specific changes will continue to be enforced by the TSSA for this CAD.

The opportunity to provide feedback is open until December 30, 2020. The TSSA plans to publish this CAD one month after that, by January 30, 2021, and it will come into effect within 60 days of publication, by March 30, 2021.

As with recent TSSA consultation on the propane storage and handling CAD, the CPA will support the TSSA to ensure Ontario is aligned with the national codes to facilitate regulatory harmonization across the country and allow for greater certainty in members’ business planning and operations. The CPA will also reiterate the case for the removal of Ontario-specific amendments to CAD documents for the same reasons.

Members can also provide their feedback on this CAD to Ontario Government Relations Director, Marcelline Riddell, by December 14, 2020 to ensure it is reflected in the association’s response:  marcellineriddell@propane.ca.

The CPA encourages members to provide their input on this CAD to the TSSA before the end of this year.
