NEW – ON: Members - be aware of potential impacts on services during TSSA information technology upgrades

On January 29, 2021, Ontario’s Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) announced new web-based scheduling and inspection services for the boilers and pressure vessels (BPV) and operating engineers (OE) regulated sectors.

The initiatives below reflect the regulator’s modernization efforts and are intended to facilitate access to services and support for customers.

Members, please be aware of the following changes, timelines and potential impact on service during these information technology upgrades.

1. Centralized scheduling for BPV and OE inspections

On March 1, 2021, a centralized system for scheduling BPV and OE inspections comes into effect. Customers will reach a TSSA agent by email or a toll-free number to book an inspection and TSSA agents will be able to access a customer’s account, including device and location. Inspectors will no longer book appointments directly. More information on contact numbers and services will be provided by TSSA later in February 2021.

2. New portal for Boiler and Pressure Vessel Certificates of Inspection

On March 16, 2021, an automated process for Certificates of Inspection (COI) comes unto effect. Upon a BPV inspection by an insurance company or inspection agency, owners will review and validate their Record of Inspection (ROI) online through the new TSSA portal. After ROI validation, customers may pay online, and once payment is processed, they will be able to download and print their COI directly from the portal. TSSA will provide further details and personalized portal registration links in February 2021.

3. Transitioning to an upgraded IT solution

TSSA is also implementing an overall upgraded IT platform to provide a consistent, simplified customer experience across programs and provide better access to data to inform risk analyses and decision-making. The regulator cautions industry that platform transition may result in delayed service response times from February 22 to March 1, 2021.

The TSSA is planning similar service rollouts for other regulated sectors in the coming months. Ontario Government Relations Director Marcelline Riddell will keep members informed of relevant developments. Please contact her directly at marcellineriddell@propane.ca if you have difficulty reaching or receiving TSSA services at any time.
