The CPA continues to engage with the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC) regarding recent changes to the inspection process.
Members had noted that the inspection frequency and costs have increased in the past few years.
The CPA has reached out to the OFC to clarify why the approach has changed from government and how it could engage with them in the future so that any change is not only clearly communicated to the industry in advance, but that industry is also consulted as a key stakeholder in the province.
The OFC clarified that the frequency of inspections is increasing, but said it is due to government inspectors more closely following the regulation requirements. There may be opportunities for future collaboration, however, and the CPA will continue to work with the OFC on improvements.
Robert Loenhart, Senior VP of Regulatory Affairs and Safety, and Katie Kachur, VP of Government Relations for Western Canada, will continue to build collaboration with the OFC to ensure the CPA and members are engaged on regulatory changes that impact the industry.
