The CPA recently met with the AB municipal regulator to discuss the recognition and application of CSA B149.2 Gas Code for Propane Storage & Handling requirements for installing and using underground storage tanks in the province. The province currently allows underground tanks to be installed and used but they are approved on a case-by-case basis, which can add cost and time to the approval process.
The regulator has agreed to apply B149.2 for the installation and use of underground storage tanks within the province. While this change is underway, AB Provincial Plumbing and Gas Administrator, Sidney Manning indicated that should members have significant difficulty with the approval process due to an inspector being less familiar with the underground application, the inspector should be directed to contact the Provincial Gas Administrator for assistance.
