The CPA conducted a compliance poll related to the issue of stationary tanks permanently mounted on trailers. The CPA met with Transport Canada on this issue and they remain open to providing a transition period to companies who would experience undue hardship if immediate compliance was imposed. Two new editions of gas safety codes came into force on November 1, 2017: CSA-B149.2-15 – Propane storage and handling code and CSA-Z662-15 – Oil and gas pipeline systems. Alberta Municipal Affairs recently published a bulletin to inform builders, contractors, renovators, gasfitters/sheet metal workers and owners of the requirements to ensure the installation and operation of gas heating appliances comply with the manufacturer's certified instructions and the CSA B149.1 – Natural gas and propane installation code. In response to the recent Transport Canada clarification regarding ASME tanks permanently mounted (bolted or welded) wheeled trailers, PTI is removing images and references to these configurations from the PTI 300-05: Cargo Loading and Securement version 2.2 program. As previously reported, CSA B622-14 – Selection and use of highway tanks, TC portable tanks, and ton containers for the transportation of dangerous goods, Class 2 requires that diesel engines on highway tanks and portable tanks containing dangerous goods of Class 2.1 and being used during loading and off-loading shall be equipped with an automatic engine air intake shut-off device.
