The CPA has received the renewal certificates for TDG equivalencies, which are available on the CPA website. Ensure vehicles that transport dangers goods in the manner covered by the equivalency are carrying the current version. The CPA is hiring! The CPA received notification that some highway tank facilities are experiencing delays in the Transport Canada approval process (see NEW! Federal – Compliance issues with highway tank facilities published December 19, 2019, for details on Transport Canada’s inspection findings at highway tank facilities). On December 18, 2019, the CPA met with Environment and Climate Change Canada to advocate for change and to receive clarification on the Environmental Emergency Regulations and the Technical Guidelines (See Update: Federal technical guidelines for Environment Emergency Regulations published November 29, 2019). Transport Canada is hosting a webinar to present the finalized approach for the Client Identification Database. The intent of the database is to provide an accurate and reliable inventory of TDG sites and activities to ensure regulatory oversight is consistent, risk based and able to keep pace with evolving and emerging safety risks. As of January 1, 2020, the reconciliation agreement for the Canadian Registration Number mutual recognition of design reviews is in effect in British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Québec, Saskatchewan, and Yukon. Technical Safety BC has announced a new nationally recognized pressure welder certificate of qualification program. This new program will ensure that all pressure welders working in the province meet the minimum capabilities of the trade as required by the applicable codes. Stewardship Ontario’s proposed Wind Up Plan for the Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste Program has been approved by the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority. The Ministère de l'Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques and the California Air Resources Board announced that the next joint carbon market auction will be held on February 19, 2020. The CSA Group has launched an online platform that allows registered users free access to Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) safety standards published by CSA Group referenced in federal TDG regulations.
