On October 13, the Standards Council of Canada announced that Transport Canada has engaged with the Canadian General Standards Board to revert the Transport Canada standard TP14877 back to its status as a CGSB National Standard of Canada. TP14877 is a standard for “Containers for Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Rail”. The CPA has set up a sub-committee to examine the new document and now requires your input. On October 13, 2020 Ontario’s Technical Standards & Safety Authority announced they are adopting the National Code through Code Adoption Documents for all regulated sectors. The following temporary certificates have been renewed until January 31, 2021 (or the day they are cancelled in writing by the Minister of Transport). As members are aware, on September 25, 2020 as part of the Ontario government’s second phase emergency management roll-out, the Ministry of Health issued a Workplace Screening Tool for all employers to administer to workplace staff. Measurement Canada has extended the grace period for the extended use of specifications for the Verification, Reverification, Installation and use of Electronic Volume Conversion Devices and Function to January 01, 2021. The Ministry of Transportation has extended the validity of the following driver, vehicle and carrier products, that expired on or after March 1, 2020 due to COVID-19. These will continue to remain valid and legal past the expiry until further notice. The Ontario government is investing an additional $75 million over the next two years to help apprentices cover living expenses during their in-class training. Itt is also appointing a five-member Skilled Trades Panel to provide advice and recommendations to the Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development on developing a new approach to training and certification.
