Many gas contractors are undertaking a mass deployment of new advanced metering technologies to improve their systems and provide added benefits to their customers. Measurement Canada is working to assist these contractors by establishing a policy to grant temporary permission. That would allow certain meters to remain in service without requiring reverification, as per certain conditions.

Technical Safety BC’s fees will increase by three per cent across all technologies, effective January 1, 2022.

On November 1, 2021, Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation advised the industry that amendments to the Highway Traffic Act Regulation 555/06 were approved and will come into force on June 12, 2022. These changes will make it mandatory for commercial motor vehicle drivers who operate within Ontario to use an Electronic Logging Device to record their hours of service.

The CPA provided comments on November 18, 2021, on the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks’ proposed administrative penalties regulation under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016, designed to strengthen enforcement tools for regulatory non-compliance.

The CPA participated in a consultation session hosted by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) to provide input from the propane industry to improve future TSSA annual safety reports.

On November 17, 2021, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority issued the new application requirements for installing underground propane tanks resulting from an Ontario-only provision within the 2020 Code Adoption Document (CAD) for propane.

The Technical Standards and Safety Authority is reminding consumers that it is illegal to fill up propane tanks and use adapters to transfer propane from a BBQ-type cylinder to a smaller cylinder sold by online retailers and promoted on YouTube.

Producers are required to register with the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) on or before November 30, 2021. While historical data is not required of Category “E” refillable Propane, if you are producing other products outside of the category, you would need to also follow the obligations for those other products.

Agricultural owners and operators have less than one week to produce a report on existing boiler and pressure vessel equipment to Ontario’s Technical Standards and Safety Authority.
