Join Dave Karn, owner, Dowler-Karn, and Steve Sparling, founder of Cowbell Brewing and past president & CEO of Sparling's Propane, as they reflect back 10 years on the CPA's inception.

While much has been made in the media of the May 12 deadline for the operation of Line 5, the CPA believes the pipeline will in fact continue operations and there will be an eventual resolution to the current impasse that will ensure the continuation of the safe, efficient and economical transportation of energy via Line 5 for decades to come.

The CPA is pleased to announce that an agreement has been signed with Underwriters Laboratories of Canada to evaluate CG-7 pressure relief device performance concerning service life in excess of the mandated 10-year replacement interval.

The CSA Group has issued a recall alert. This recall involves specific StaRite and Mastertemp gas-fired pool heaters with a model number manufactured between December 22, 2020 and January 6, 2021. A connection in the heater can leak the combustible air-gas mixture, posing a fire hazard.

The Alberta government recently announced its intent to renew the Partners in Compliance program. Members of the program receive beneficial measures in recognition of their safety in the transportation industry.

On May 5, 2021, the Ontario government announced its COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan with the launch of mobile vaccine units for small to medium-sized businesses in hot spot communities. These mobile units are offering vaccinations in Toronto, York and Peel at select businesses that have employees who cannot work from home and have a history or risk of outbreaks. Each public health unit will determine the small- to medium-sized businesses where mobile units will be deployed. For more information, click here.

The Quebec government has announced a draft regulation regarding the content of renewable fuels blended with gasoline and diesel. The regulation aims to ensure blended levels of 15% renewables in gasoline and 10% renewables in diesel by 2030.

On April 29, 2021, the CPA announced that a bulletin was being created by Transport Canada to inform inspectors to not continue verifying if distributors were providing a copy of the cylinder requalification document to new owners of a purchased container. While Transport Canada works towards providing this bulletin, the CPA has submitted a docket to the CSA B339 committee meeting to push for changes to both the code and TDG regulations.

Since the Technical Standards and Safety Authority issued its new fee structure for the propane sector in April 2021, the CPA has been working with members to quantify the impact on member businesses and press the regulator to remedy the significant inequities that have been identified.

As members have been informed, the Ontario government is developing a program that would integrate emissions testing for heavy vehicles and the Motor Vehicle Inspection Station program, into a single operation conducted at provincial inspection stations by private operators using high-tech tools with data and diagnostic capabilities.
