The machine building industry has certainly changed: Extensive and sophisticated control programs contain the core know‐how and make today’s machines more flexible and productive. Although software and data is important for machine builders, control programs are usually first “tried out” on real machines without prior validation.

Graduates with little to no manufacturing experience can become career-ready manufacturing professionals through the eight-week training program, which comes at no cost to the student thanks to scholarships provided by local employers. Students can earn the industry-recognized Certified Production technician designation from the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council, along with Career Readiness Certifications. The CPT curriculum covers safety, quality practices and measurement, manufacturing and production processes, and maintenance awareness.

EMA – Truck & Engine Manufacturers Association
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved sweeping new regulations affecting heavy-duty trucks sold in the state. The Omnibus LowNOX Rule includes a 90% reduction in tailpipe NOX emissions, plus nine additional regulatory requirements on new heavy-duty truck and engines. Those additional requirements include a 50 percent reduction in particulate matter emissions, stringent new low-load and idle standards, an unproven in-use testing protocol, unworkable extended deterioration requirements, a new California-only credit program, and extended and costly mandatory warranty requirements.

Learn the common, current and basics of the tools and techniques used to measure and inspect gears. There are four main categories by which a gear evaluated and classified. Gear design, manufacture and inspection are based on numerical scale that defines gear quality. The methodology to measure and techniques required to quantify quality of a gear tooth form will be thoroughly investigated and explained. It is often stated that quality cannot be inspected into the part, however inspection can tell us what to do to correct many issues.

As manufacturing becomes more data-driven, manufacturers have a new threat to consider: cybercrime. When you think about hackers, you probably don’t imagine factories as their target, but cybercrime is a serious issue for any sector. Manufacturing companies can be particularly vulnerable to digital threats nowadays, even if it doesn’t seem that way at first.

In February, A lobbyist friend urged Erik Satorius, the executive director of the Kansas League of Municipalities, to look at a newly introduced bill that would affect cities. The legislation involved “personal delivery device” — robots that, as if in a sci-fi movie, might deliver a bag of groceries, a toolbox or a prescription to your doorstep — allowing them to operate on any sidewalk or crosswalk in Kansas at speeds up to 6 miles per hour, the pace of a quick human jog.

In the 1990s Toyota’s principles of production equipment became “simple, slim and flexible,” which some people might interpret as “go slow and be cautious in adopting new technology.” The real message here is: “adopt and adapt technology that supports your people and processes.” The starting point is this: where are real needs that technology can address to help achieve your goals? This is a question of pulling technology based on the opportunity, instead of pushing the technology because it is the latest fad.
