One in three manufacturers surveyed by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia said they have experienced significant labor shortages, with some positions remaining unfilled for more than three months. A key problem is a mismatch of skills, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia reported in its closely watched monthly manufacturing survey.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development will award grants totaling $1.5 million to help 37 employers in 15 counties train about 2,200 manufacturing workers for new jobs or better pay. In Dane County, Stoughton Trailers will receive a grant of $238,471 and Midwest Prototyping will get $32,064 to train and hire or promote workers, according to a news release from the state department.

Celanese Corp. is a Fortune 500 global technology and specialty materials manufacturer with an existing research and development facility and 350 employees in Florence. The new 25,000-square-foot manufacturing hub will create 10 new jobs.
