The March ISM Manufacturing Survey shows manufacturing is barely breathing. Growth as a monthly -1.4 percentage point decline put PMI near the contraction edge. PMI is now 51.5% and if the index falls below 50%...that's contraction. The reason for the slide was supplier deliveries, which were more streamlined indicating less to ship and slower manufacturing hiring.

The seventh annual poll by Prime Advantage, a Chicago-based purchasing aggregator, indicated that half of the participating chief financial officers anticipated growth in the U.S. economy this year, a four percent increase over the 2014 poll and a record high for the survey.

European markets closed higher on Wednesday after economic data showed manufacturing activity in the Eurozone is continuing to expand.

Eurozone manufacturing production accelerated to a ten-month high in March, underpinned by the fastest expansion of incoming new business since April of last year, according to the latest Markit Eurozone Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index data.

GE plans to deliver its newest gas turbine in July, a decade after the rollout of an earlier model that was hindered by performance issues and sold poorly. The company is investing $2 billion developing the new 433-ton unit, which can churn out enough electricity to power 400,000 homes.

Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) said Tuesday it has received a 50-MW order from Hebei Fengning Construction Investment New Energy for a plant in China.
