Pat Dunwoody, CAE, recently announced her retirement after a 30-year career in association management.

A graduate of the University of Georgia with a BA in English, she began her association career at TAPPI in 1989, where she managed TAPPI PRESS, the group’s technical and scientific book-publishing division. She was later named head of TAPPI’s new public education and outreach initiative, and in 1998 was selected to lead a team that created an interactive Disney World exhibit that was featured at Epcot from 1999 through 2004.

Pat joined the Associated Builders and Contractors of Georgia in 2003 to develop and expand the chapter’s education and safety services. Under her leadership, ABC’s educational programs have become some of the most well-respected among the association’s 70 chapters. Pat was promoted to Executive Vice President in 2016.

Pat has been deeply involved in GSAE for many years. She was a member of the inaugural class of GSAE’s Leadership Academy in 2009, and has held positions on the Professional Development Committee, the Board of Directors, and as chairman of the GSAE Foundation. She earned her CAE in 2012 and has been active as a Leadership Academy facilitator, CAE study group instructor, and most recently on the Wine and Webinars team. In 2018, Pat was the recipient of GSAE’s Alan R. Johnson Award.

Pat plans to retire in May 2020. An avid traveler, she and her husband Ken intend to spend more time traveling and visiting their son and his family.

Susan Glenn, Director of Sales, will be retiring on February 28, 2020 after 18 years with the DoubleTree Augusta and more than 20 years in the hospitality industry in South Carolina. She is looking forward to spending more time with her nine grandchildren and traveling. Susan would like to send her regards to all the members she has met and associated with over the years.

Congratulations, Susan!

Any organization in Georgia that employs at least one GSAE member may apply. The applications are due May 1 and will be judged on the quality of the internship experience described in the application rather than on the qualifications of the student who will fill the internship. It is the responsibility of the organization to recruit a qualified student to fill the internship, but this may be done after the GSAE Foundation announces which applications will be funded.

Watch this video and visit gsae.org to learn more about the internship grant program. And, please consider making a donation to the GSAE Foundation.

The GSAE Foundation is proud to partner with the University of Georgia on their Emerging Leaders Program. The program seeks to provide paid internship opportunities to first generation college students and students from diverse racial and economic backgrounds. These interns will spend 8 to 11 weeks in the nonprofit sector or local or state government offices in Georgia. This is an incredible opportunity to gain experience in the areas of public policy, public services, public safety, and public well-being in the State of Georgia.

Please reach out to Adam Paige, Internship and Recruiting Coordinator, UGA School of Public & International Affairs, if your organization would like to hire one of these interns for an upcoming semester. You may connect with him at apaige@uga.edu or (706) 542-2924.

Since 2005, Georgia Society of Association Executives (GSAE) has been a member of Association Societies Alliance (ASA), an association for executives of state, local and regional societies of association executives (SAEs) across the country.

Through ISAE's partnership with ASA, GSAE has conducted a compensation and benefits survey biennially since 2013. Moving forward, this information will now be gathered through a 24/7/365 online platform, powered by Dynamic Benchmarking. By extension of GSAE's membership with ASA, the Real-Time Compensation Benchmarking tool is available to all GSAE members.

Entering data will always be free. For the first year (2020), generating customizable reports will also be free to all users. Effective January 1, 2021, users will be able to access reports through an annual subscription discounted for GSAE members.
