The Professional Development committee, led by co-chairs Ragan Cohn, CAE and Joel Peacock, is charged with developing a list of topics and speakers to recommend to the GSAE staff for the 2014 Annual Meeting and for 2014’s April, July and November luncheons. The lion’s share of that work will take place in a single, in-person meeting in late September or early October. Are you willing to commit to the important work of this committee? If so, please join the committee here.
To make the most of the only in-person meeting, committee members will need to do a little bit to prepare for it: (1) accept an assignment to look into one or two professional speakers who have already surfaced as a possible keynote speaker (usually this will entail watching one of their presentations in the form of an online video), and (2) begin building a list of topics and/or speakers you think would be a good fit for the GSAE audience. The assignments for the professional speaker review will be distributed by August 16. Take this Doodle poll to let us know your availability.

Large employers that fail to provide minimum health coverage for employees will not be subject to the shared-responsibility penalty until 2015 after Treasury announced on Tuesday that it would delay certain provisions of 2010’s health care legislation. In a Treasury blog post titled, "Continuing to Implement the ACA in a Careful, Thoughtful Manner," Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy Mark Mazur wrote that the government "will provide an additional year before the ACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) mandatory employer and insurer reporting requirements begin."
