The Sharon Hunt Emerging Leader Award was renamed in 2014 to recognize the contributions of Past President, Sharon Hunt, CAE.  The award is presented to an association executive with ten years or less of experience in associations who demonstrates leadership through service to GSAE, their own association and to their community.  Chief staff executives (CEO, executive director, executive vice president, etc.) are not eligible.  Nominees must have been a member of GSAE for at least one year.

The Corporate Member Representative of the Year is presented to the corporate member who has demonstrated outstanding and continuous service to the association community in Georgia.

Thank you to our generous sponsors, MemberClicks, Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart and Naylor Association Solutions. The Georgia Society of Association Executives is proud to partner with Institute for Organization Management, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s professional development program for non-profit executives, and offer two $500 partial tuition scholarships to one of Institute’s 2016 sites. The two scholarships, available to our members, will be awarded to students attending Institute for the first time to assist with enrollment fees and cannot be combined with any other Institute scholarships.

For over 90 years, Institute has educated association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders across the country through its national program, highly rated curriculum and high caliber instructors. Thousands of executives have attended Institute sites across the country to strengthen their management skills, learn industry best practices, and gain a broad national perspective from peers.  Institute has helped them build stronger organizations, become stronger business advocates and better serve their members. In addition, you will earn points towards your CCE or CAE certification as Institute’s curriculum is directly tied to the bodies of knowledge of both the American Society of Association Executives and the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

Upon completion of the Institute program, graduates receive the IOM recognition which allows them to use the letters "IOM" in public mention and professional correspondence.  The IOM recognition signifies the completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management and commitment to the industry.

Are you already an IOM and have an updated job or title? Update your contact information and stay connected.

If you are interested in this scholarship opportunity, contact Wendy at wendy@gsae.org by November 17th.

Early registration deadline for Winter Institute is November 20th.

For more information about Institute’s curriculum, sites, and dates, visit the Institute Web site and Prospective Student Toolkit to help you gain insight into the program.

Airlines should clearly disclose the cost of change and cancellation fees, as well as the size of plane's seats, before a passenger buys a ticket, a federal panel said Tuesday. Hotels should also be required to include any mandatory fees in their room rates, the Transportation Department's Advisory Committee for Aviation Consumer Protections recommended. The panel's recommendation on hotels was directed to the Federal Trade Commission, which has been investigating such so called drip pricing.

Likewise, the four-member panel heard testimony that passengers must search to find the cost of change or cancellation fees that airlines hide in a ticket's fine print. The Transportation Department should require the fees be spelled out clearly so that passengers are informed before a ticket purchase, the panel said. Read the full article in Successful Meetings.

Associations have the unique ability to bring together companies that are direct competitors and unite them in specific priority areas - advocacy, identifying industry needs and trends, and training opportunities to name a few. Developing and sustaining individual relationships with each company is no small feat, and as President & CEO of the American Beverage Association, Susan Neely has succeeded in bringing competing household brands together time and time again. In this session Susan will address how she initiated those relationships when she first became CEO, how she developed them over the years, and the process of avoiding minefields while finding areas of unity in the industry.
