On Thursday, October 19, 2017, the Rice Design Alliance held its Gala Underwriting party at the Moody Center for the Arts on the campus of Rice University. Designed by Los Angeles–based Michael Maltzan Architecture, the 50,000-square-foot, $30 million center serves the campus and general public as an experimental platform for making and showcasing works across disciplines through deliberately flexible interior spaces.
Built by Linbeck Group, LLC, the facade is framed by steel and integrates a secondary steel web that spans from the second floor to the roof continuously along the entire facade. In September, the facility won a design honor from AIA California Council.
