On Saturday, November 9, 2019, Rice Design Alliance honored the Tellepsen Family at the annual RDA Gala for their incredible contributions to Houston for over 100 years. RDA Board President Steve Mechler, TI Constructors, led the ceremony with opening remarks recounting the Tellepsen family’s legacy in the construction industry and through their involvement in the community. Tom Tellepsen, a Norwegian immigrant, came to the city and founded the firm in 1909, after taking architectural drafting classes in the Downtown YMCA. He also helped to establish the AGC Houston Chapter in 1923. In 1973, Warren Bellows, Jr., W.S. Bellows Construction Corp. presented Tom Tellepsen with an Honorary Life Membership.
Each generation of the Tellepsen family has served on the AGC Houston Board of Directors. Before 700 guests, Howard Tellepsen, Jr., Chairman of Tellepsen, received the commemorative award on behalf of his family from David Leebron, Rice University President. AGC Houston has been a proud corporate sponsor of RDA for 27 years.
