AGC Houston Celebrates Excellence in Safety

On August 22nd, AGC Houston proudly celebrated our dedicated contractors and safety professionals who work tirelessly to ensure safe construction workplaces at our annual Mid-Year Safety Meeting. We were honored to have special guest David (Kawika) Lau, a combat veteran, share his incredible story of resilience, overcoming adversity, and post-traumatic growth as our keynote speaker.

At the meeting, Julie Schatz with CompGroup AGC presented the TBB Zero Lost Time Awards, recognizing contractors for their outstanding commitment to safety. Huge thanks to CompGroup AGC for being our presenting sponsor! More contractors than ever before took home the Associated General Contractors of America National AGC Safety Award (NASA) for achieving a zero-incidence safety record or maintaining an incident rate 25% lower than the industry average. We’re so proud of our members for their dedication to safety. Let's continue to bring people together to advance the issues important to the commercial construction industry!

On August 27th, the AIA/AGC Joint Committee gathered for a Lunch and Learn, where they reviewed a real-life case study and explored strategies for handling disputes to prevent litigation. Moderated by David Peden of Porter Hedges LLP, former chair of the State Bar of Texas Construction Law Section, the panel, featuring Max Montegut of Brookstone Construction and Terry Smith of Smith & Company Architects, provided contractor and architect perspectives on how critical mistakes could have been prevented and how conflicts can be resolved quickly before escalating to litigation, ultimately preventing issues on future projects. Huge thanks to our sponsors and members for making this event a success!
