IN MEMORIAM: Remembering a Former AGC Houston Staff Member

Remembering Barbara Bailey Myers

It is with sadness that we announce the death, on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, of former Houston Chapter AGC Staff Member Barbara Bailey Myers. She died at her home on Lake Conroe, following a two-and-a-half year battle with cancer. She was 68. She is survived by husband Don Myers and a number of stepchildren and step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by former husband Bud Bailey. A memorial service will be scheduled in the coming weeks.

Barbara joined the Houston Chapter AGC in 1991 and retired in 2006. During her time with Houston AGC, she lead the chapter's thrust into Open Shop Service, as the construction labor market changed dramatically in mid-1980. She instituted wage and salary surveys, the Employment Practices Committee and developed several education programs on positive personnel practices and employment law. She gained particular competence with the Federal and State Prevailing Wage Laws; public owners such as the City of Houston and Houston Independent School District regularly sought her counsel. She also pioneered the chapter's move into the electronic plan room.

A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Barbara attended McNeese University and worked at the tri-institutional complex of St Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital and the Texas Heart Institute, as well as First City National Bank and CPA Firm Peat Marwick before joining the Houston Chapter AGC.

Her legacy is that of a quiet doer, who brought intellect and class to every occasion and gained the respect of all Houston AGC Members who knew her.
