AGC Houston members packed our training rooms on Sept. 26 for the monthly Safety Committee Meeting, which concluded with a "show-and-tell" exhibition by the Houston Fire Department's Station 11 Technical Rescue squad. Attendees heard a brief summary from OSHA's 2019 injury/fatality report, which will be released in full soon. Jim Shelton of OSHA reported that there were several recent injuries and deaths linked to lightning strikes due to severe area storms in summer.
Other current topics discussed included ground-penetrating radar and safety applications; the use of smart safety apps and how technology can be used for best safety measures; mobile safety training and PPE safety rigs that deliver gear to jobsites.
A special thanks to the "TC Jesters" Houston Fire Department Station 11 squadron for bringing its rescue rig and demonstrating how its technical rescue team responds to high-risk, tactical rescues. Check out an HFD technical team rescue at a construction jobsite in January.
AGC Houston will be feauring an article soon on what construction crews can do to facilitate HFD rescue work on a jobsite. Stay turned!
