In conjunction with FMI, AGC's Surety Bonding and Risk Management Forum recently completed a survey of the risks that today’s construction contractors have high on their radar screens—and the various ways that contractors are dealing with those risks. The responses that AGC and FMI received from 83 best-in-class companies collectively approaching $50 billion in annual volume suggest the following:
  
Associated General Contractors of America CEO Stephen E. Sandherr issued the following statement in response to the House Education and the Workforce Committee’s newly released composite retirement plan concept:
"The fact this committee has released its concept for how firms may adopt 'composite' retirement plans will provoke an important and necessary debate in Congress about the best way to enhance retirement security well into the future."
AGC of America is proud to announce the launch of our 2017 project award competitions! The Alliant Build America Awards (including the Marvin M. Black Partnering Excellence category) and AGC in the Community competitions are now accepting applications.
Each year the AGC Education and Research Foundation offers undergraduate and graduate level scholarships to students enrolled in ABET or ACCE accredited construction management or construction related engineering programs. The applicationopened July 1, 2016 and closes November 1, 2016. Over $10 million in scholarships have been awarded to more than 4,000 students attending colleges and universities across the country. Through endowments made by AGC members and supporters, as well as AGC Chapters, the Education and Research Foundation awards over 100 scholarships each year to students dedicated to pursuing a career in the construction industry.

 DeWalt representatives were on hand Monday, September 12 to showcase their innovative line of cordless power tools, complete with on-site demonstrations and featuring a 18-wheeler filled with the latest of their products. The FLEXVOLT™ is the world's first battery that automatically changes voltage when you change tools. Numerous AGC Houston members attended the event at Karbach Brewery, including Safety Committee members.
On October 14, 2016 Satterfield & Pontikes will host a golf tournament at Hermann Park Golf Course to benefit Nora's Home. The center offers a home away from home for transplant patients and families. AGC Houston members interested in participating in the event can click here.

On September 22, 2016, Workforce Solutions will be hosting a job fair to promote high-demand jobs in specialty construction, petrochemical and the oil and gas fields. Employers looking to promote their companies and opportunities are welcome to exhibit.
AGC Houston members are invited to join the Houston Revit Users group, which meets on the second Tuesday of the month. Revit and BIM application users range from beginner to expert skill levels. Since 2002, the Houston Area Revit Users Group (HARUG) has been the main resource in the area for Revit Users, AutoCAD Architecture (previously Architectural Desktop), AutoCAD and other BIM-related tools.
Owners, healthcare providers and the A/E/C industry are coming together on November 12-15, 2016 at the George R. Brown Convention Center for the Healthcare Design Expo & Conference. The four-day event is devoted to how the design of responsibly built environments directly impacts the safety, operation, clinical outcomes, and financial success of healthcare facilities now and into the future. Conference sessions cover a broad range of topics, all relevant to today’s healthcare facilities.
In addition to more than 100 educational sessions, attendees will connect with industry leaders from around the country as they learn from inspirational keynotes, panel discussions, facility tours, and can view the newest innovations in healthcare design products at the exhibit hall.

Here's Looking at You
 More than 500 AGC members, guests and industry partners filled The Astorian to celebrate some of the industry's best projects at the APEX 12 Gala on Saturday, September 10, 2016. A total of 52 gold, silver and bronze awards were presented in 18 categories to recognize projects for their excellence in design and construction, contributions to the community, and advancement to the commercial building industry. The event also served to pay homage to Paul Bell, Jr. with the 2016 Master Builder Award.
