AGC Texas Building Branch has announced that it will release the list of winning projects the week of April 30-May 4. AGC Houston will contact all chapter entrants with the news. The awards will be held at the AGC TBB Annual Convention June 6-9, 2018.
EPA Considers Permitting Discharges to Groundwater Under the Clean Water Act The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is accepting public comment (link is external) until May 21, 2018 on several topics related to the question of whether the federal government should use the Clean Water Act (CWA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program to regulate discharges to (or through) groundwater that hydrologically connects to a "Water of the United States" (WOTUS). AGC is seeking more information from members on how this EPA action may impact contractors that own/operate stormwater infrastructure that "treats" or "stores" water runoff. This would include features that infiltrate stormwater or process water underground such as injection wells, underground tanks, surface water impoundments, retention or detention ponds, artificially constructed wetlands, treatment lagoons, or groundwater recharge and reuse systems. Dodge Data and Analytics has identified seven key performance indicator categories that are most effective for helping construction companies manage a project. The proper indicators, which include safety/inspections and productivity, must be based on the project's goals and work toward process improvements. There’s a new paid leave mandate on the books and it’s going to affect many Texas employers. On February 16, 2018, the Austin City Council passed a long-discussed ordinance requiring employers to give their Austin employees paid sick leave regardless of what city the employer is based out of. Most employers (those with more than 5 employees) must provide this leave starting on October 1, 2018. Austin is the first city in the South ever to enact such a law. The $200 million project will require the installation of 46 turbines and is expected to be completed in 2019. ACCIONA Energia, the renewable energy subsidiary of Spanish infrastructure company ACCIONA, announced that it would build its second wind farm in Texas, the 145 MW Palmas Atlas wind farm located in Cameron County. The OSHA Construction Safety and Health Conference will provide an ideal forum to learn about new and ever changing safety products, processes, procedures and technology in the construction industry.

AGC Houston and the American Institute of Architects Houston Chapter Houston members teed it up at
Champions Golf Club on Monday, April 9 for the 23rd Annual AGC/AIA Golf Tournament. The event drew more than 250 golfers, representing the design and construction industry as well as owners. This year, the golf tournament raised $20,000 for ACE Mentor Program Houston, Inc. The program mentors high school students to find their way into the architecture, construction and engineering industries. To date, 79 Houston area schools offer an ACE Mentor Program to their students.
